Vivaldi's ‘The Four Seasons’ Sunday 30th August 2009"Painting in sound... an almost unbearably beautiful day of music making"Gates open from 2pm for an afternoon of local food and family fun, set to the sounds of the orchestra reheasing. Main performance 7.30pm - 10pmSpend a relaxing Sunday afternoon discovering the delights on offer
at our local food fair whilst listening to Hazlewood and his period
instrument orchestra, the Army of Generals rehearsing...a unique
opportunity for music lovers to climb even further inside the music
making process. Then, as the sun sets over the Somerset countryside,
Hazlewood, his orchestra and Russian violin virtuoso Alexander
Sitkovetsky will vividly paint the seasons and times of the day in
sound through Vivaldi’s the Four Seasons and Haydn`s wonderfully
dramatic morning, noon and night symphonies. Charles will introduce the
rehearsals and show live from the stage in an effort to 'open up' the
music. A fantastic opportunity to see the Army of Generals fresh from their starring role alongside Charles in the BBC2 series ‘The Birth of British Music’, which covers Haydn’s impact on British culture.
With free entry for under 13's, a reduced price package for families
and a fun packed programme of activities for the whole family to
enjoy on the Sunday afternoon, Play the Field is the ideal way to introduce
children to live classical music. Find out more
As the finale to Play the Field, Charles Hazlewood has announced that world renowned artist
Norman Perryman will perform live continuous kinetic paintings, projected on to
an eight meter-wide screen, to the music of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Perryman’s images will be keyed to the ideas and feelings of the
music, enriching the musical experience yet remaining in the memory as
powerful works of art in their own right.
An Introduction from CharlesThis concert is all about painting with sound. Vivaldi's The Four
Seasons is one of the most popular pieces of music ever written,
graphically depicting the yearly cycle of the seasons in the form of
four high-octane violin concertos - Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
From Vivaldi, master of high Venetian virtuosity to another set of
eighteenth century masterpieces, Haydn's three symphonies, which
describe in sound the different points of the day.
This will be a concert of break-neck virtuosity, courtesy of the
extraordinary violinist Sasha Sitkovetsky and my period-instrument
orchestra Army of Generals. I can promise a bracing and almost
unbearably beautiful evening of music making.
I'll introduce the whole show live from the stage, to help people
who know the music well hear new things in it and to encourage people
who aren’t so familiar with classical music to engage with their heads
as well as their hearts.
The programme for Play the Field has kindly been sponsored by Francis
Clark, the largest independent firm of accountants in the West Country.
